THIS PAST YEAR, THE GEORGE WASHINGTON
University Museum and Textile Museum marked its
10th anniversary at GW, celebrating a decade as a hub
for textile research and scholarship across disciplines,
including anthropology, museum studies, art history
and chemistry.
Home to more than 25,000 textile works spanning five
continents and five millennia, the museum has expanded
opportunities for hands-on learning and research while
advancing the field of textile studies. The museum’s
Cotsen Textile Traces Study Center, for example, invites
students and scholars to examine nearly 4,000 textile
fragments dating from antiquity to the present day.
The museum also plays a leading role in generating and
sharing new knowledge in the field. Its publications include
The Textile Museum Journal, North America’s premier
peer-reviewed journal dedicated to textile scholarship.
Scholarly programs hosted by the Textile Museum connect
researchers from around the world with GW students,
including recent museum studies graduate Methi
